Politics
First off-mucho apologies for not posting anything recently. I have been slammed with stuff left and right…..I will do whatever penance you deem necessary to get back in your good graces……
Secondly, I’m really sick and tired of this presidential campaign. Yet, I’ll find myself turning on the tube late at night and surfing back and forth between CNN, FOX and CNBC to hear the latest scuttlebutt from the McCain/Obama drama. I suspect I keep tuning in for the same reason people slow down and stare at traffic accidents.
But be that as it may, a McCain pollster called the church recently asking if ‘Pastor Fadness had endorsed Barack Obama from the pulpit two weeks ago?’. I got on the phone assuring her I endorsed neither Obama or McCain from the pulpit or anywhere else for that matter. She wanted to know who I was voting for. I did not tell her. She proceeded to tell me that Obama was using the book of Acts to support the redistributing of wealth and that I should preach from Acts to set the record straight.
I find myself being resentful of the whole political process. I resent the fact that Evangelicals have been linked to the Republican party. As if to say, if you are an Evangelical Christian you are by default a Republican. I am neither a Republican or a Democrat. I am a follower of Jesus Christ and I vote the way my conscience dictates in accordance with the values that I believe are closest to Jesus’ heart.
Rant over…..Comments?

“i find myself being resentful of the whole political process. I resent the fact that Evangelicals have been linked to the Republican party. As if to say, if you are an Evangelical Christian you are by default a Republican. I am neither a Republican or a Democrat.”
i laughed because this was touched upon with god in the book…. the limitations we as humans put on each other to fit a mold, god doesnt care about nor ordain for us to live under…..i simplify this statement to get a shoutout for this amazing book!
greg, i cant tell you how this book impacted me!!!! everything looks different and im so excited to share it with anyone that will listen!

Thank you! As one who use to be die-hard Republican, I can honestly say I’ve found freedom. I use to hear the gross misuse of the pulpit as well as church leaders proclaiming that followers of Jesus can only be Republican. Bologna! My husband has really taught me alot in the area of politics and given me much to ponder. I come to the voting table with prayer now instead of my own agenda.
Boy Greg, that lady was sure bold in her rudeness. Politics can definitely bring out the “ugly” in people.
And fwiw, I wish we could have voted a month ago. This is much too long of a process.
I very much dislike that I would vote against someone rather than for someone, but…
Parties, party affiliations? I think I’m more conservative than the republicans… oh where does that leave me? The constitutional party or way out there with some gun toting hay seed brandishing a straw hat coverals and, of course, no shoes?
Would be nice to have someone running that didn’t seem so, well, politically motivated.
There should be a “Christian” party…one that believes in the values taught in the Bible. But I know it would get corrupted eventually. Anything that stays in the realm of politics eventually does. So maybe not.
I’m so sick of this election too. I just want to go vote and get it over with.
Oh and I’m glad you’re back, Greg!!
Wow what a pushy telemarketer! They are getting pretty brazen. The elections this year are dodgy at best. I’m pretty disappointed that one person, who will remain unnamed (we’ll code name him M*ke H*ckabee), isn’t one of the running candidates. Not that he’d be perfect, but at least his values seemed a little bit more focused on a Biblical world-view.
Ya know, to be honest though, I think we should focus on something more uplifting, more long-lasting, more important to our day-to-day living… Did you hear about the Sarah Palin mannequin hanging from a noose from a tree in Western Hollywood?
I am sick of the polittical mess as well. I also used to be die hard republican but then I realized that I ahould vote for the one that had the better ideas, beliefs, etc….
I am not registered to vote yet in the state of Idaho so I will not be going to the polls. I have stressed over which candidate will be elected into office. But in our lifegroup we have been studying the book of Daniel and talking about the current elections fate. And we have decided that this is all in God’s hands. No one is going to make it into the White House that God does not want in there. Who ever makes it, is the man God wants and it’s all apart of His master plan. It’s all apart of the end time prophecy. So we don’t worry about it anymore. What will be will be and we are comforted to know that it was ultimately God’s choice.
Mandie,
You can register to vote the day of the election. Go to the polling place nearest your home and take your driver’s license as well as a utility bill or phone bill with your home address on it to prove where you live. Then you can vote.
My daughters and I are doing this since we were late for registering any other way. We were very happy to know this was possible.
yeah i agree we just moved to twin and you have to be here for 30 days then you can register, and we are happy you can register at the place you vote! we vote at the reform church, anybody else in that area? just curious if anyone on here is in our neighborhood? go mandie, go!!!
I find it very hard to stay up on what canidates believe and stand for, and i respect people who dont vote because they are uninformed. However in my heart I feel that it is my civic duty to vote and help (maybe just a little) sway the political climate. I do feel that there are alot of people out there that complain about our current administration who probably didnt vote in the last presidential election, and i think that if you did your part to get your particular canidate into office and they didnt win, then i can understand being a little upset, however if you chose to not vote and then you complain about the president, senator, whoever, that doesnt say as much. So to sum up. Vote if you want, i will, but if we dont its partially our fault that the canidate we wanted didnt win.
“Those who cast the vote decide nothing. Those who count the vote decide everything.” -Joseph Stalin
If you do anything this election, PRAY. And then pray some more. And then pray some more after that. It’s not just an appeasement of the consciuos nor is it just good thoughts towards people; it supernaturally opens the window of heaven to allow God to move and work.
One complaint I hear a lot is about poor voter turn out.
I have a plan that would certainly get more registered voters to the poles and more people to register. And the vast majority would vote early.
If technology were employed that would record if someone had voted and automatically be entered into a data base that would put a block on all political phone adds and eventually television adds.
Can you think of any more effective instinctive?
Happy Reformation Day.
Happy Nevada Day. (I like linking Nevada Day with the Reformation rather than Halloween.)
Hey its 4:20pm Pacific time so 5:20pm Mountain. How come my post says 11:20 pm?
Is this a sign that my idea of technology sparing me from running to the phone only to hear a recorded political ad is not feasible?
Love your idea, Dan… I’m voting for you!!
Oh Dan, GREAT idea!!!! :)
and it’s only 7:17 PM (before the time change…) and my post reads 1:17 AM LOL!!! I don’t intend on being here typing at 1 AM but ya never know…
c
well, it’s official. i have a problem :[ it’s been two whole years since this thing kicked off and it looks like i’m the only one who’s still hooked. they’ve got me right where they want me. somebody help!!!!!!! maybe i can start a new celebrate recovery group……. wait a min. it won’t do any good! you don’t get much support from a group of one! what to do, what to do? maybe tomarrow will bring me the closure i’ll need to move on with my life. please keep my poor wife in your prayers:) P.S. happy election day. go palin 2012!!( or 2016 if we have to wait, but hopfully we won’t be here;) or we’ll have just gotten back.)
It’s official that Obama is our new president. Does anyone else see a lot of end time prophecy coming with this as well?
Well, when people started calling him the “messiah” I figured that was it, he was the new president. Sure enough… It’s interesting… Hopefully it will draw people closer to the Lord in these coming days. I know a lot of people who are just sick right now. But we also have to remember, God is on the throne… However, I hear New Zealand is a nice place to live, LOL! :) Wink… kidding…..
All I can say is: look up, and lift up your heads, for your redemption draweth nigh.
Pharaoh… was still God’s pharaoh.
I would have rather had McCain & Palin in the whitehouse, but If I were to be honest, I would have to say there is an excitement stirring deep within me.
Already because of the economic decline I am hearing people talking about simplifying their lives, their spending and other things.( myself included) The underlying common denominator is to abandon the craziness of our pace and our desire for things and get back to what really matters in our lives. Relationships.
I believe the Obama-Nation could quite possibly bring some very challenging times for us as Christians, but with those challenges and possible adversity, is hidden treasure. Therein lies the stirring…..
Well said, Susan.
i love christian blogs. as i read down the list everyone is caring and considerate to each other. there’s no back biting or people spuing hatred like we see all over on the web today.
we all seem to be uplifted in the Lord even though the thing we dreaded most for this election happened. God is awesome, and his greatness is so evident in even the blogs of his people. love you guys and gals! have a great day.
just wondering what everyone thinks of our new president??? personally, I’m interested (and slightly worried) to see how this is going to turn out. as we all know God is in control and he put Obama in the white house for a reason according to his will…I just hope Jesus comes soon
I ahve a feeling that Jesus is coming VERY SOON! At first I was like “No not yet!” But I am ready now! Let’s go home everyone!
Mandie your funny…I’M READY NOW!!!
TAKE ME HOME DADDY !!!!!!!!!!!
I think the majority votes for their personal life style when they should be voting for the good of the nation and yes of course a man with good christian perspectives and beliefs.
Obama kinda freaked me out with his exceptance speach when he said he was in favor of gay and lesbian rights. It changed my opinion of him immediatly. The lord put him there but i think he is one scary individual.
